A North Shore adventure by land and sea
"If at first you don't succeed, try try again" And try we will. This will be our third attempt at the schooner cruise as rain ruined the last two tries. "Third time is a charm" we hope... This year's attempt will be a SHINE ONLY EVENT. If inclement weather is forecasted I will make the call Friday night via email. The event will be much like last year's except the meeting point will be different to mix things up (see directions below) and the sun will be out. Join us as we relive the maritime history of Gloucester. Our day will start out with a cruise of Cape Ann highlighting the rocky coast line and twisty roads of Essex, Rockport, and Gloucester. After our road tour it's off to lunch at the Seaport Grille located at the Gloucester Cruise Port Terminal. As last year's menu was enjoyed by all we will be having the same. This time we'll be outside on the deck!! Lunch Choices are:
After lunch we will take a short stroll to visit the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center. The center is a grassroots non-profit organization which got its start in 1999. The two core components of the center mission are to champion the preservation of Gloucester maritime industrial history and to serve as a resource for the study of maritime history, industry and ecology. After our tour of the Maritime Center it's off to our Schooner Cruise aboard the Thomas E Lannon. I have secured a group rate of $28.00 per person providing we have 30 or more people. (Regular rate is $37.50) Keep in mind the maximum boat capacity is 49 so sign up early to secure your spot. Money for the cruise will be collected at the day of the event so please bring exact change. Since group parking can be a challenge in Gloucester the Seaport Grille will allows us to leave our cars at the restaurant while we take our museum tour and Lannon cruise. Total walking distance is 1/2 mile one way. If you are unable to walk that distance you can drive and park closer. DIRECTIONS: Meet at the New Gloucester Crossing shopping plaza in front of Marshalls at 9:00AM:
