Miata Ladies Overnight
May 2002
By Pat Tarantino
There are many moments I would love
to share, but these “Ladies Only” occasions are few and quite sacred.
It would be betraying too many secrets to reveal them in any publication.
Being the “Virgins” on this MLO was quite a treat. Janet and I were
escorted and watched over very carefully. However, let me list a few
items my friend Janet and I learned from this weekend:
- Everyone that has a CB radio should bring it; you miss out on too
much conversation without one. (We’re getting one very soon).
- Shopping in several great stores is
truly a challenge in a Miata, but when you have friends with empty passenger
seats it is much easier.
- Seaside driving fun, with the tops down, is a multiple of the number
of cars in the line. The faces on the people you pass brings joy back
to you. Especially when you begin hearing, “Hey, they’re all women
in those cars!”
- Beware while driving on Rt. 1A of large men opening doors and stepping
out of large rubbish trucks. They can jump right into a top-down Miata
driving by.
- Dining with twelve ladies is a challenge to any Japanese Steak House
Chef, but ours was a special treat. No telling, ladies! You all just
have to imagine. HINT: If anyone goes to that one in Portland, ME,
I would NOT mention that you own a Miata and are from MA.
- HINT: When calling AAA it helps to know the name of the street you
are on. It’s amazing how many tourists there are in Kennebunkport when
you need information like tat. No one knows!
- There are two Public Parking places in Kennebunkport, but no one knows
where the second one is, but somehow we were parked in it. Twilight
Zone????
- Always know where the battery is on your Miata and someone should
have a pair of bumper cables. It also helps to know how to use them.
Are there other items we need to know about, honey?
- Eating and shopping was all we did. “Do YOU have a problem with that”?
- Being a virgin again after 30 years was lots of fun. Others should
try it.
- But best of all after our great time,
it was wonderful to meet up with our better halves at Vinnie Testa’s.
Suffice it to say, much bonding went on, much laughter
and tears were experiences, some would say a healing experience. My
suggestion to all you ladies is to reconsider going to next year’s event
and experience this yourselves. Janet and I hope to make it again.
Also, I’m sure all the ladies would like to thank Shelley,
Cathy and Terri for all the work they put into planning this delightful
trip. Our accommodations were wonderful; we received VIP treatment
at and Holiday Inn. Our Miata’s received VIP treatment including extra
security checks. Only the weather in Portland did not cooperate, but
I think that was out of their hands. And I don’t recall seeing anyone
stop their shopping because of it. Every one of you made Janet and
I feel like veterans of the group and made us very comfortable. Thanks
to you again.
